According to the Mexican Commission for Fisheries, this program aims at performing continuous preventive actions, at sea and on land, to protect the reproduction areas where many species take shelter.
As a strategy, an agreement was reached for an institutional coordination between the three governmental levels; also verify the inventories of the species subject to bans to ensure the legal identification of the parties producing, transporting or trading in these species.
The monitoring program in the reproduction areas of the banned species will remain, and so will the distribution of legal and judicial rulings in the case of breaking the law.
The role of the Federal officials of the Mexican Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA) and the personnel from the Public Secretary of Agricultural Issues of the Mexico Direction for Fishery, will be very important.
The program will maintain and support the boats for the marine monitoring with personnel well enabled for this activity.
The IATTC imposed tuna ban is scheduled to start on November 20th and lasts until December 31st.
