Revealing the construction progress of the extended Phuket Fishing Port, the Port Manager Pra-muan Ruck-Jai said it is now 86% in progress. The government allocated 299 million baht to the fishing port to upgrade its facilities up to export standard, especially on marine or aqua products, as well as in serving the government food safety program. It also aims to improve and promote Phuket as a regional tuna fishing and export centre.
The project is expected to be completed in September this year. After a tour of the construction site, Phuket governor Udom-sak Us-sa-wa-rang-kul suggested that the facility will be suitable to be promoted as a Seafood Market Centre. He pointed out that it will be a good combination between fisheries and tourism.
