First Ocean Tuna Festival In Phu Yen ff

The People’s Committee of the Vietnamese central Phu Yen Province said that they will organize its first ocean tuna festival this spring to honor offshore fishermen and advertise its specialty - ocean tuna.

This will be the first folk festival held under the sponsor of the Ministry of Fisheries. The festival is part of the ministry’s program to develop trademark for and advertise ocean tuna, a specialty of highly economic value of three central provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa.

The festival will take place with folk art performances like hat cau ngu, ho ba trao, hat an, hat lang, a seafood fair and introduction of cuisines made from ocean tuna among others.

Phu Yen has the highest catching output of ocean tuna in Vietnam with a fleeting of over 700 boats. In 2005 local fishermen caught 5,040 tons of ocean tuna, the highest output thus far, earning over VND306bil (US$19.125mil).
