Mexico: U.S. Dolphin Ban Caused USD 1.3 Billion In Lossesff

The damages originated by the ban are countless, according to data provided by the Mexican Fishery Chamber:

-The Mexican tuna fleet was reduced by more than 40%,  remaining with only 43 vessels larger than 400 tons capacity.

-More than 11 years were lost and over 30.000 workers lost their jobs during the embargo period.

-Mexico failed to generate US$ 200 million on exports because of the ban.

- Boatowners and Ensenada canneries were mainly affected. A total of 10 of the 12 tuna canneries, which were operating in Ensenada, were shut down.

The financial losses caused by the U.S. dolphin ban are estimated in US$ 1,300 million.
