Australia Imposes Tariff Rise On Thai Tunaff

26 October 2005 Australia

Port Lincoln Tuna Processors is set to benefit from a temporary tariff rise on imported tuna.

Tariffs on processed tuna imported from Thailand will temporarily rise to five per cent for the rest of this year.

Under the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA), once a certain volume of Thai tuna has been imported, the Government can choose to increase the duty from 2.5 per cent to 5 per cent, according to Minister for Fisheries Peter McGauran.

The trigger volume for 2005 was set at just over 21 million kilograms.
