Pakistan Arrests 52 Indian Tuna Fishermenff

26 October 2005 Pakistan

Authorities arrested 52 Indian fishermen which were targeting tuna for allegedly straying into Pakistani waters in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Karachi, maritime officials said.

The fishermen and their nine trawlers were seized earlier this week about 150 kilometers southeast of the port city of Karachi, said maritime security agency spokesman Lt Com Atiq-ur Rehman.

He said the men were handed over to police and were being held in a Karachi jail. The arrests bring to at least 132 the number of Indian fishermen being held in Pakistan.
