The Spanish group ealsa-Rianxeira, presided by industrialist Jesús Alonso Fernández, will destine 6 million euros to the reconstruction of its first international project (Rianxeira-America), the new canning plant in Guatemala which was burned down just before becoming operational and completely destroying the processing facility.
Another 3.6 million euros will be designated to the Peña Armada park (with a 20% participation in a 18 million euro-project). In addition, 3 million will be invested in the construction of storage facilities in Boiro and another 2 million investment will be focused on the production plants of Bayuca and Bodión. The group’s canneries currently employ 2,187 workers, as opposed to the 1,736 personnel employed last year and way beyond the 670 workers they had a decade ago.
A similar evolution is registered in the number of total business: 293 million euros, 26 more than the past year (232 million). The main factory of O Bodión is dedicated to the tuna canning and has a surface of 80,500 meters, a warehouse of 8,500 meters, reefer space for 5,000 tons, a pet food plant and installations for purifying industrial residual water, with a capacity of 850 m3 of water a day.
The Jealsa-Rianxeira group currently has tuna production facilities in Spain and has plans to commence activities in its Guatemala plant in the near future. The group’s branches are located in Portugal, France and Italy. Jealsa currently exports its products to the markets of United Kingdom, Austria, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Macao, Greece, Rumania and Uruguay. Jealsa Group has obtained several important certificates for its quality-product, such as the Efsis Higher, granted by the association of British importers and distributors, being the first tuna processing plant to obtain this title within the 300 inspected facilities worldwide. EscurÃs achieved the quality certificate ISO 9002, the Boinersa co-generation plant acquired the environmental management certificate ISO 14001, Galcia Calidade and Efsis Higher. The tuna vessels Kurtzio and Matxikorta operate in the Atlantic, the vessels Sant Yago I and Sant Yago II in the Eastern Pacific.
