The Vietnamese Ministry of Fisheries said that more fishermen in central coastal provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Dinh anh Khanh Hoa were sailing out to sea for tuna fishing trips as this time of the year is said to be the most successful for tuna fishing.
Fishermen in the region have caught 5,000 tons of ocean tuna, almost doubling the amount caught last year.
Price of one kilogram of tuna in the region is now between VND 60,000 and VND 70,000 depending on quality. Each fishing vessel is able to earn tens of millions of Vietnamese dong after a fishing trip offshore.
Experts said the catch that increases sharply this year is thanks to more investments in fishing equipment and facilities. The fishing season for ocean tuna lasts until August.
