Spain working To intensify Fishing Relations With Mexico ff

Spain will be Mexico’s liaison between this country and the European Union (EU), assisting to express Mexico’s continued tension and requirements on fishing matters, the Fishery Secretary General, Mr. Juan Carlos Martin Fragueiro, of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Foodstuff (MAPA).

Mr. Martin Frageuiro announced Spain’s intervention during the opening of the Aquamar International 2005 Fair in Merida, Mexico. He emphasized Spain’s interest to intensify the fishing relations with Mexico based on the fishing resources sustainability criteria.

He also indicated the advantages of narrowing the bilateral cooperation given the important roll fishery has in both countries’ economy, with the creation of jobs, expansion of currency and social-financial benefits for the population dedicated to this activity.

Mr. Marting Fragueiro insisted that this collaboration must be based on the criteria of sustainability through measures of protection and conservation of the marine resources and in accordance to the latest and more trustworthy scientific data.

Spain participates in this forum with six organizations and business associations that group more than 550 companies from the Spanish fishing and aquaculture sector.
