Peru Canned Tuna Exports Pass USD 4 Million ff

In the period of January-August the group “preparations and conserves of Tuna” registered exports of USD 4.265,548, that is 8% more than in similar period of the last year when the amount reached USD 3 million 953 thousand 220.  

 

In the same way, the amount accumulated upto August of this year already covered 83% with the total exported in 2004 when the number was of USD 5 million 156 thousands 560, informed the Association into Exporter (Adex).  

 

According to the information provided by the system of intelligence Adex Data Trade, the exporting union indicated that the amount of the 2004 was the highest amount exported until this moment (USD 5.156,560).  In the 2002 exports reached USD 2.040,000 and USD 3.438,729 in 2003. 

 

ADEX also informed that this group occupies the 10th position in the ranking of nontraditional fishing by representing the 1.8% of the total of exported by that sector (USD 229 million 040 thousands).  

 

Regarding countries of destination, ADEX indicated that the United Kingdom is consolidated as main buyer when buying that group for USD 2 million 092 thousands, which represents 49% of the total. UK is followed by Spain, which by acquiring at USD 582 thousand, obtained a participation of 14% of the total.  

 

Also, Chile and Colombia tied by each acquiring 10% of canned tuna for a value of USD 404 thousand and USD 403 thousands, respectively, whereas Dominican Republic got 8% with USD 320 thousand and Ireland 7% with a purchase of USD 259 thousands.  Other buying countries, although in smaller amounts, are Venezuela, the Netherlands, Bolivia, Panama, Italy, Bahamas, and the Dutch Antilles, among other countries.  

 

As far as the 12 companies commercializing tuna is concerned, ADEX reported that only two were major representatives with Austral Group S.A.A. as the leader by monopolizing 88% of market, obtaining USS 3 million 764 thousands, whereas the second place corresponded to Pesquera Hayduk S.A. which obtained 10% with USD 437 thousand of the total commercialized product.
