Heinz Ghana Obtains ISO 14001ff

21 April 2005 Ghana

Dr. Eric Ago Kwei, board chairman of Pioneer Food Cannery, producers of StarKist Tuna and other tuna products, has on behalf of the company received the SGS Health and Safety Certificates at a ceremony in Tema.

Business and Environment Manager of SGS Ghana Mr. Hichem E. Tabka presented the certificate also known as the ISO 14001 International Environment standard status accreditation, a requirement by the UN.

The management of PFC, the German subsidiary of H. J. Heinz Europe also presented certificates to 40 employees, who have undergone a first aid course in health and safety organised by St John's Ambulance Brigade at the same ceremony.

While the ISO assessment would be replicated every six months, the St. John's Ambulance First Aid course for two more batches of 40 would continue to ensure the full compliance of all health, safety and environmental requirements.

PFC, formerly owned by Mankoadze Fisheries and its partners, was acquired in June 1994 by Messrs. H. J. Heinz Company to primarily engage in tuna-processing and canning for export.
