8 April 2005 American Samoa

COS (Chicken Of the Sea) Samoa Packing Company’s work force of 2200 employees once again achieved the exceptionally rare industry safety milestone of 3 million safe employee work hours on March 10, with 321 consecutive days of safety without a lost time accident. Although the company frequently has reached and surpassed the 1 and 2 million benchmark, this marks only the third time Samoa Packing has reached 3 million, last achieved in June 2002.

Samoa Packing’s industry safety record reflects the company’s proactive comprehensive Plant Safety and Training Program which includes daily plant-wide safety compliance inspections by Employee Plant Safety Committee members and Management.

In commemoration and recognition of Samoa Packing employees’ achievement of this 3 million safe hours, various activities are scheduled including plant-wide raffles affording employees with a variety of awards, safety bingo and slogan contests and other safety promotions.

General Manager Herman Gebauer, heartily commended and thanked the employees and management for their continued, unwavering focus on safety proclaiming, “Now that we’ve achieved another 3 million safe hours, I respectfully encourage our continued drive to our next goal of 365 consecutive safe days which, we will reach on April 23, only a month away. I am confident that together, we will continue to succeed and reap the exemplary safety benefits for our people and plant.”
