Kalamua To Open New Frozen Tuna Plantff

Next month the Basque frozen tuna producer and trader Kalamua, will open new factory in Ribadavia, Galicia, which will provide work to more than 60 employees.

During a recent administration council held in Ourense, Galicia, the Basque company Kalamua informed that this new factory is financially supported by Caixanova Savings Bank.

The new factory in Ribadavia will enable the company to obtain a more noticeable position within the larger Spanish market areas due to its greater production and new packaging systems.

The total investment foreseen for the new installations is about 6 million Euros. The activity of Kalamua S.A. which, also has its own installations in the Canary Islands, will create about 62 job openings in Ribadavia during 2005 and 2009.

Its main activities are the production and trading of frozen tuna, swordfish, shark and fish kebabs, for their own sales and distribution, as well as manufacturing for other companies.

This Basque company has a production capacity of 12,000 kilos per day. It has its storage and distribution center located in Canary Islands with a surface of 1,000 sqm, operating as headquarters for all its tuna purchases from the Atlantic.
