EU Duty For Thai & Indo Canned Tuna Reduced BREAKING NEWSff

24 January 2005 European Union

BREAKING NEWS

Last Friday, January 21st the 25 member states of the European Union agreed to support the EU Commission proposal to reduce the duty for canned tuna from Thailand and Indonesia from 24% to 20,5 % starting April 1st 2005. The reason for the reduction is to provide economic assistance to all the Asian countries affected by the tidal waves of December 26th.

According to information available to atuna.com, initially there were considerations within the commission to reduce the duty to 20,5 % by July 1st  2005 , however the recent tsunami has motivated the commission and members states to move the implementation forward.

As it looks now Philippines will not benefit from the reduction in duties to 20,5% per April 1st 2005, however this still needs to be clarified.
