Colombia Expands Its Tuna Fishing Fleetff

Colombia's fish exports is expected to increase by nearly 30,000 tons as a result of the reinforcement of its tuna fishing fleet with 5 Bolivian vessels with a catch capacity of 1,000 per vessel, informed the director of Incodor, Mr. Arturo Vega.

He added that the fishing fleet will consist of 12 vessels, enabling to increase export activities which are currently reaching USD 70 million to Europe. He also said that every direct employment will create yet another four indirect jobs.

According to Mr. Vega, Colombia currently catches about 55,000 tons of yellowfin tuna specifically, from a total catch of 90,000 tons; however, with the additional 5 vessels, volume is expected to increase significantly.
