The Coastguard in Auckland, New Zealand expects a grounded fishing boat will remain trapped until Thursday night.
The 50-foot tuna trawler was heading in with a catch when it became stuck in sand close to the shore at Whatipu, north of the entrance to Manukau Harbor. It began taking on water at 4:00am on Thursday but it is not known how much water it has taken on.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard, Ron Rolston, says the boat was in heavy surf, making it impossible for Coastguard vessels to reach it.
The Westpac helicopter rescued the three men on board.
Rolston says the boat's insurers are putting together a salvage plan but expects it won't be shifted until the tide comes in on Thursday night.
