Indonesia To Start Marine Resource Research Center ff

6 April 2004 Indonesia

Indonesia’s Fishery and Marine Resource Ministry is committed to allocate at least Rp90 billion every year to step up fishery and marine resource research, Minister Rokhimin Dahuri said here Thursday.

“As a country with abundant fish and marine resources, it is time for Indonesia to have an international-level fishery and marine research center,” Rokhimin said, adding that the fund will be increased in the future.

Besides conducting research activities, the fishery and marine research center will be developed into a tourist destination for science and technology. The minister said the plan to establish the research center has gained support from the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan and ASEAN countries. “The research center will become profit-oriented by commercializing the research outcomes to businessmen,” Rokhimin said.
