The European Union has invested Euro 8.5 million (USD 11.5 million) in ANFACO for research that targets to strengthen its position as a reference technology center. The money will go towards the construction of a new center of advanced research for marine industry and food.
ANFACO (Spanish National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Seafood) will aim to increase its research staff and promote the transfer of results of the investigation to the industry.
The Council of the Xunta in the Galician region of Spain authorized the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Ministry of Competitiveness for the construction of the new center that will be located in Vigo.
The seven floor and 5,500 square meter building is planned to be completed by the end of 2015 and will be home to the latest technologies in the industry. Contract staff will be doubled to over one hundred researchers and a temperature control system for the analysis of biotoxins, compounds, pesticides and nutrients will be installed.
