Conxemar Opens Its Doors In Europe’s Seafood Capitalff

1 October 2013 Spain
As many as 480 exhibitors from 36 different countries have met today at the biggest seafood fair in Vigo, Spain, expecting thousands of attendees.  Vigo is considered Europe’s seafood capital, having the highest level of seafood imports of any EU port. The exhibition site Ifevi has opened its doors for three days as one of the world’s largest seafood shows in its 15th edition, fighting for its existence against the new Seafood Barcelona exposition.

This edition is said to come under the banner of “optimism”, and bring together industry players that have managed to weather the difficulties of the economic crisis. Some of Spain’s most iconic companies, such as Pescanova, will be exhibiting.

Seafood Barcelona, with its second edition from 22 to 24 October, is the new competition for Conxemar. José Luis Freire, Conxemar’s president, said that it was good news that the Barcelona fair had failed to expand its space.

Vigo is the center of seafood trade and the biggest producing region of canned tuna in Europe. The Seafood Barcelona expects to reach just over one hundred exhibiting companies; this represents only a quarter of those that are exhibiting this week at the Conxemar Vigo event.
