Del Monte CEO-Highly Paid Tuna Executiveff

 The CEO, Chairman and President of Del Monte Foods Co., which owns U.S. based StarKist tuna, Mr. Richard G. Wolford's compensation jumped 41 percent to USUS$1.75 million for the fiscal year that ended June 30, bolstered by a bonus that more than doubled from the previous year. For fiscal 2002, Wolford earned a base salary of US$755,555, up slightly over last year's USUS$754,978, according to regulatory filings.  This makes him one of the highest paid executives in the global tuna business. His bonus -- tied to financial objectives and individual performance goals -- jumped to US$977,774 from US$468,948 in fiscal 2001. The head of the San Francisco foods company, which is buying H.J. Heinz Co.'s pet food, tuna and baby food businesses, also collected US$16,989 in other compensation in fiscal 2002, vs. US$16,709 in 2001.
