A planned visit by the interim CEO and President of StarKist, the parent company of StarKist Samoa, has been cancelled.
Mr. Sam Lee was to arrive tonight for a four day visit, the main purpose of which was to meet the new governor and lt. governor.
Mr. Lee was to travel together with Andrew Choe, StarKist Vice President Procurement,. Steve Hodges, Senior Vice President Sales and Greg Davis, Regional Sales Manager.
They were to be on the same flight tonight with StarKist General Manager Brett Butler who’s returning home from vacation on the mainland.
StarKist spokesperson Mary Sestric said there's been a change in plans, and Mr. Lee will not be making the trip to American Samoa.
Ms. Sestric did not respond to emails seeking the reason for the cancellation of Mr. Lee’s visit.
In other cannery news, production resumed today at the StarKist plant in Satala after a two week shutdown for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Cannery official Taeaoafua Dr. Meki Solomona said turnout on the first day was very good.
Before the shutdown General Manager Butler had indicated that they would be advertising for local employees, with the expectation that employees from Samoa would take extra time off to help rebuild families affected by Cyclone Evan.
