The production of Venezuela’s fishing and aquiculture sector reached 550,000 tons this year, a 10 percent more than in 2002, according to official data.
The president of the Venezuelan National Institute of Fishery and Aquiculture (Inapesca), Daniel Novoa informed that tuna and sardines record the largest production margins, although he did not specify any figures. “The most important matter is that during 2003 Inapesca supported a clear policy, regarded as the sustain alignment to the development of the artisan fishing and to the rural aquaculture", he said.
