A missing Japanese tuna fisherman and his son were discovered alive last Friday on remote, inhabited, Minamitorishima island, one of the Ogasawara islands in Tokyo, the Japan Coast Guard said.
An airplane from the JCG's found Mitsuo Isozaki, 55, and his second son, Kazuki, 22, waving their arms near their tuna fishing boat, which had run aground. The 8.72-ton boat went missing late Thursday off Torishima island, part of the Izu islands in Tokyo.
The vessel left Yaizu Port, on Dec. 21 and the two started fishing two days later. They were scheduled to return to Sakaematsu Port in Nangocho, on Sunday or Monday.
