Twenty-four tuna cannery workers of the Alfageme tuna processing plants spent the night in a Galician town hall to protest the sale of the company its facilities, which will be sold on Thursday. Joined by union secretary IGC Abuín Rosa, they intend to stay in Vilagarcía’s town hall until the situation is resolved favorably.

The Lago family, the company’s former owners, has already filed appeals to stop the sale. The Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) has not yet set a date to resolve the appeal.

Alfageme has two factories – in Vilaxoán and Ribadumia – and 150 workers.

Currently, three companies have expressed interest in acquiring Alfageme’s assets. They are Grupo Consorcio, Pescamar and Coswinga SL.
