The Ministry of Economy issued an agreement defining the quota and allocation mechanism to import processed tuna – except for loins – coming from the European Union (EU).
The agreement sets a quota of 8,000 metric tons for the period between 1 July of one year and 30 June of the following year, which will be subjected to the implementation of direct allocation procedure by means of the “first come, first served†rule.
The fixed quota will increase 500 tons each year.
Federal Representation of the Ministry of Economy shall issue the certificate of quota within five working days following the date of the presentation of the application.
The amount to be issued is the least considering the amount requested, the value indicated on the invoice and the bill of lading, consignment note or air waybill.
The Agreement also specifies that if the applicant has been the recipient of four expeditions in the quota certificate, they will have to prove that they have performed the total of at least one of the expeditions previously granted by means of a copy of the corresponding import declarations.
Quota licenses are not transferable and are valid until no later than 30 June of each year.
The agreement on the import quota took effect a day after its publication in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF).
