Australia’s first ever tuna vessel, the Tacoma has returned to Port Lincoln from its first tuna fishing trip since the 1980’s.
The crew recreated the vessel’s pioneering logs from the 1950s, catching tuna in the old fashioned way, using old bamboo poles.
President of the Tacoma Preservation Society Ross Haldane says it was a successful trip with six tuna caught.
“We have a 78 year old original poler on board, Jack Bellamy and he poled his tuna, he hadn’t poled a tuna in 44 years and he poled one aboard so that was our first aim and we were very successful at that.â€
