Tuna baron and champion racehorse owner Tony Santic has been hospitalised with chest pains.

It is understood he has not had surgery and will undergo further tests today after being admitted to Adelaide’s Calvary Wakefield Hospital on Wednesday.

A source said Mr. Santic, owner of three-time Melbourne Cup winning mare Makybe Diva, suffered chest pains for a few days while out on one of his boats and the pains persisted when he docked at Port Lincoln.

He was flown to Adelaide on Wednesday.

Colleagues in the tuna industry refused to comment other than to say Mr. Santic was doing well.

“He had a small problem or something, I think,” said Stehr Group owner Hagan Stehr.

“All we know is Tony is alright.”

Australian Tuna Boat Owners Association president Brian Jeffriess said: “At this stage, he’s certainly OK.”

It is understood Santic is expected to be released from hospital on Saturday.
