DelMonte / StarKist Staff On Familiarization Visit To Canneries ff

22 October 2003 American Samoa

An eight member delegation of Del Monte Food officials, headed by the company's president, are scheduled to visit the StarKist tuna cannery in American Samoa and some canneries in Bangkok, Thailand.

The delegation, which will include StarKist Seafoods' top official Barry Mills, is on a  famililiarization visit of its operations in American Samoa.
The American Samoa plant is now Del Monte's largest production facility and StarKist Samoa is the largest tuna cannery in the world.

The group hopes to meet with top government officials before their departure Tuesday evening. From American Samoa, the delegation, believed to be traveling on a private jet, heads to Bangkok.

This will be the first time the Del Monte president visits the Territory since the San Francisco-based company acquired StarKist Seafood.

In 2002, H.J. Heinz Company exchanged several of its retail brands, including StarKist, for a major interest in the new Del Monte company.

StarKist Samoa is the largest private employer in American Samoa employing well over 2,000 workers. Thailand is the feared competitor of Samoans.
